The bodies of four men and five women were found burnt in a fire in a 40m2 flat in District 4, Ho Chi Minh City, on the evening of August 29. The flat had been locked from both inside and outside.

The fire had been put out before the firemen arrived at the flat.

The victims are Nguyen Van Cao, 83, the owner of the flat, and his wife Nguyen Thi Kich, 78, their five children and two grandchildren.

Some neighbours said they had seen smoke but no fire and the fact that the victims were already burnt appeared suspicious and could indicate a murder.

Vice Chairman of the HCM City People’s Committee Nguyen Trung Tin and leaders of the municipal firefighters and police force rushed to the scene to deal with the case.

Relevant agencies are investigating the causes of the incident.
