Ho Chi Minh City hopes to have Sweden’s cooperation in dealing with climate change, said Le Hoang Quan, chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee at a seminar entitled “Green Solutions” on October 1.

During the seminar, which was jointly sponsored by the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee and the Swedish Embassy in Vietnam, Mr. Quan said environmental protection measures are already being carried out in Ho Chi Minh City.

“We hope to receive support from Sweden in order to deal with environmental problems,” he said.

Swedish ambassador to Vietnam Rolf Bergman said Sweden’s economy has grown by 44 percent since 1990 while greenhouse gases have been reduced by nine percent, thanks to the country’s effective environmental protection programmes.

“It is, therefore, very desirable to strengthen the cooperation between the two countries to promote the sustainable economic development,” he added.

The seminar, attended by environmental specialists and delegates from 25 Swedish businesses and organisations which specialise in green technology, is part of activities marking the 40th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-Sweden diplomatic relations.
