The German Savings Bank Foundation for International Co-operation (SBFIC) will continue its support for the improvement of Vietnamese social welfare, said SBFIC Executive Director Peter Langkamp.
The Executive Director made the pledge when he and Chairman Aris Alip of the Agency for Agriculture and Rural Development of the Phillipines (CARD) were received by Vice President Truong My Hoa in Hanoi on June 1.

Mr Langkamp said the German government has given SBFIC the go-ahead to finance the second phase of a project on the expansion of a Vietnamese social welfare fund called the TYM, which is under the management of the Vietnam Women's Union.

During the reception, Ms Hoa thanked the two agencies for their financial support totaling 330,000 EURO, which has created opportunities for poor Vietnamese women to escape poverty. She expressed her wish for continued technical and financial support from the two agencies to build the capacity of TYM staff members.

In recent years, SBFIC, TYM and CARD have closely co-operated with each other to provide micro finance services to impoverished Vietnamese women that help them access start-up capital to do business and expand production.
