Priority given to macro-economic stabilisation

(VOV) - Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung called for greater efforts to stabilize the macroeconomy in 2013, keep inflation at 6 percent and achieve higher economic growth than in 2012.

Measures must be adopted to control market prices in the first months of 2013 to nip in the bud any hoarding of essential goods to corner the market, Dung told ministers and authorities of localities at a two-day teleconference which concluded in Hanoi on December 26.

The prices of goods, mainly food and foodstuffs, go up considerably in January and February due to high consumer demands during the lunar New Year festival.

Dung called for effective use of the monetary policy closely linked to the fiscal policy, aiming to rein in inflation, reinforce the macroeconomy, and achieve sound growth.

It is necessary to ensure major balances of the economy, and manage the interest and currency rates in a way that helps improve the liquidity of the banking system and support inflation containment and economic growth, he said.

The government leader urged ministries, agencies and localities to ease difficulties for businesses, by offering loans with appropriate interest rates, prioritizing loans for export-oriented production, increasing credits for agricultural production, and introducing incentives to rural development.

He asked them to take measures to support businesses in seeking outlets for their products, dealing with inventories, settling bad debts, and boosting trade promotion.

He reminded the designated ministries and localities to restructure public investments, further improve their investment environment, accelerate administrative reform, and especially maintain traffic safety, social order and security during the upcoming lunar New Year festival.
