Anti-corruption agencies should take full responsibility for their decisions without being subject to any amount of pressure when handling corruption cases and should not lay the blame for failures upon individuals, said member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat and Political Bureau Truong Tan Sang.

In a recent interview granted to Thanh Nien (Youth) newspaper, Mr Sang said the Party and State have implemented drastic measures against corruption. The tenth Congress of the Party Central Committee (PCC) issued a resolution on increasing Party leadership capacity in the fight against corruption and wastefulness. In addition, the National Assembly also promulgated the anti-Corruption Law and the Law on Practicing Thrift and Preventing Wastefulness and established the Central Steering Committee for Anti-Corruption headed by the Prime Minister.

The Government, ministries, sectors, fronts, organisations, administrations and localities at all levels have issued documents and built action programmes to implement the PCC’s anti-corruption resolution and law. Centrally-run provinces and cities have set up their Steering Committees for Anti-Corruption aimed at implementing anti-corruption measures more effectively.

The Steering Committees for Anti-Corruption should be responsible for directing the fight against corruption before the Party and State while strictly handling every corruption case.

On the other hand, it is important to resolve arising issues related to corruption and wastefulness as early as possible with a view to perfecting the legal system, mechanisms, and policies, reinforcing administrative reform, intensifying personnel organisation and strengthening the exercise of publicity and democracy in the implementation of social and economic policies.

At the same time, it is necessary to enhance ideological and moral education, and improve the payment policy to improve the lives of Party members and State employees.

One of the urgent tasks in society is to strictly control and deal with corruption cases. All people, Vietnam Fatherland Front chapters, social organizations and the press are encouraged to engage in the fight against corruption.

Corruption prevention and control is a complicated and long-term task. Though the results achieved to date are still far from expected, the whole country is determined to successfully combat the negative phenomena in the coming period under the clear-sighted leadership of the Party and State, with the active participation of people from all walks of life.

Regarding the handling of corruption cases involving senior officials, Party Politburo member Sang stressed that anyone who gets involved in corruption will be strictly punished under the Party regulations and State laws, regardless of their position. There are no exceptions and no limits.

Anti-corruption agencies, from the central to the grass-root levels, must fulfil their duties and tasks as regulated in the Party resolutions and the Anti-corruption law. They are not subject to any amount of pressure while handling corruption cases and must not shift the responsibility for their failures onto each other.

The Party Politburo and the Secretariat function as supervisors and all Party cells and members in the political system are asked to raise their sense of responsibility to properly implement the Party resolutions and the Anti-corruption law successfully in order to gain people’s confidence.
