Japan to strengthen defence links with Vietnam

Japanese Defence Minister Gen Nakatani affirmed that Japan wishes to strengthen political trust and all-around links with Vietnam, particularly in defence, during a meeting with Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in Hanoi on November 6.

Nakatani informed his host of the outcomes of his working session with the Vietnamese Defence Ministry, stressing that the Japanese Defence Ministry will work closely with the Vietnamese counterpart to realise defence agreements.

The Party chief hailed the outcomes of talks between the two defence ministers and expressed belief that the visit would strengthen defence cooperation between the two countries, contributing to further deepening the Vietnam-Japan extensive strategic partnership for peace and prosperity in Asia.

He reiterated the Vietnamese Party and State’s stance on promoting bilateral ties for long-term benefits of the two peoples.

The host suggested continuing close coordination to optimise the existing dialogue cooperation mechanisms and realise bilateral defence agreements signed between the two countries.
