The 2009 Vietnam Marathon and Mountain Hiking races began in the central city of Danang on October 1, attracting semi-professional athletes from more than 20 countries.
These are special sports aimed at attracting more tourists, especially those on Danang-Hong Kong flights, to tourism packages available in the central region.
The athletes will compete in three legs over three days.
