Seven golds for Vietnam at world pencak silat championship

(VOV) - Vietnam came second with 7 gold, 7 silver and 5 bronze medals at the World Pencak Silat Championship in Thailand from January 10-16. 

The country bagged six gold medals and topped the list of the combat event. Some outstanding names were called such as Pham The Hung (men’s 85-90kg category), Hoang Van Bac (men’s under 85kg), Nguyen Thai Linh (men’s 60kg), Nguyen Duy Tuyen (men’s 80kg) and Lo Thi Tuong (women’s 75-90kg).

National athletes competed unsuccessfully in demonstration event when they only obtained one gold medal.

Indonesia led the medally with 9 gold, 7 silver and 3 bronze medals.

The host, Thailand was listed in Top 3 after clinching 4 gold, 1 silver and 6 bronze medals.

The 16th tournament held in Phuket, Thailand draws the participation of 450 athletes from 38 countries and territories over the world. They compete in combat and demonstration events to win 24 sets of medals.

Vietnam had won championship title for the first time in the 15th World Pencak Silat Championship in Thailand in 2012.
