Ho Chi Minh City will apply the eco-town model developed by Van Lang University and the local department of science and technology to protect the environment more effectively.

The aim is to create a rubbish recycling model, said Dr My Dieu, a member of the research group. Specifically, it will minimize the emission of greenhouse gases, improve the management of solid waste, raise pubic awareness of environmental issues, provide a high-quality infrastructure for people to live and work, and sustain the highest possible pace of industrial and economic development.

The application of such a model is of great significance to HCM City, which will become home to 23 processing zones and 30 industrial clusters by 2020, said Dr Lam Minh Triet, head of the Institute for Water and Environmental Technology.
