The Vietnam-Republic of Korea (RoK) Committee for Scientific and Technological Cooperation held its 6th session in Hanoi on November 1.

Addressing the event, Dr. Mai Ha, Head of the Ministry of Science and Technology’s International Cooperation Department, said that Vietnam wants to enhance bilateral cooperation with the RoK, especially in science and technology management, biotechnology, advanced materials, medicine and pharmaceuticals, information and communications technology (ICT), and new forms of energy.

The two sides agreed to consider new projects through diplomatic channels. Accordingly, each side will finance its selected science and technology cooperation projects and inform each other about the scheduling, planning, and detailed contents one month before the projects are officially proposed.

They pledged to promote mutual exchanges of human resources and technology in the environmental and green chemistry fields, as well as in developing and using bio-energy.

The Korean Ocean Research and Development Institute and the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology agreed to prioritize assessing joint environmental research on Vietnam’s coast using remote sensing technology. In addition, the Korea Research Foundation and the Vietnam Science and Technology Development Fund will promote cooperation to improve management capacity.

The two countries will also expand the current joint committee for science and technology cooperation into the Vietnam-RoK Committee for Education, Science and Technology Cooperation.
