The Ho Chi Minh City’s tourist sector is estimated to have earned around VND2,300 billion in January 2008 , up 30 percent compared to the same period last year, according to the municipal Department of Tourism.

Of this figure, VND1,600 billion came from hotels and restaurants while VND700 billion was from travel business.


In January, foreign tourist arrivals to the city also rose high to 300,000 visitors, up 17 percent against the same period last year. Around 290,000 visitors traveled by air while 40,000 traveled by sea and over land.


In particularly, around 150,000 overseas Vietnamese people returned to the homeland to welcome the traditional Lunar New Year festival (Tet), 15 percent more than last year.
