The female patient, 60, took care of an ill relative at Da Nang hospital in Da Nang city, a coronavirus hotspot, in last July and she tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus after showing virus symptoms of a fever and a cough.

This is the third locally transmitted infection in Quang Ngai.

Da Nang is the first locality in Vietnam where the second wave of the coronavirus began more than a week ago. A total of 174 cases of community transmission have been confirmed since the first case was reported on July 25, mostly closely linked to the Da Nang hotspot.

The virus has spread to nine localities across the country, with Da Nang alone recording 120 cases. It was followed by Quang Nam province (35), Ho Chi Minh City (8), Dak Lak and Quang Ngai provinces (3 each) Hanoi capital (2), and Thai Binh, Ha Nam and Dong Nai (1 each).

As of 6am August 3, Vietnam has detected 621 COVID-19 cases, of which 373 cases have fully recovered. Six coronavirus patients have died, who also suffered from underlying illnesses.
