Vietnam will take on arch-rival Thailand in the finals of the Asian Women’s Football Championship to be held in Ho Chi Minh City from May 28-June 8.

After attending a draw in HCM City on April 18, Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) General Secretary Tran Quoc Tuan said the national team fell into a tough group with very strong rivals.

Apart from Thailand, who beat Vietnam in the SEA Games final match last year, group A includes top-seeds China and the Democratic Republic of Korea (DPRK), which won the straight berths and skipped the qualifying round.

According to Mr Tuan, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Women’s Asian Cup taking place in Vietnam this year will be a good opportunity to increase the country’s position in the continental football.
