The Prime Minister has decided to upgrade Phu Bai airport in central Hue city to an international airport as of August 31 at a cost of hundreds of billions of Vietnam dong.

The airport will have a 2.8km runway, 45m wide and equipped with a lighting system to serve night flights. It is expected to receive huge planes like Boeing 767s, and one million passengers and 50,000 tonnes of cargo annually by 2010.

After Da Nang, Phu Bai will be the second international airport in central Vietnam.
