On September 11, the People’s Court celebrated the 65th anniversary of its Traditional Day and received the Order of Independence, third class, in the presence of State Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan.

65 years ago, on September 13 1945, the Government issued a decree abolishing the court system run by the feudal colonialists and set up military courts in Hanoi, Hai Phong, Thai Nguyen and other provinces across the country.

Over the past 65 years, the Hanoi municipal People’s Court tried tens of thousands of cases to maintain political stability and social safety.

The Hanoi municipal People’s Court now has eight units at the municipal level and 29 units at district level. Last year, the court sector handled nearly 18,000 cases, meeting 90 percent of its target, and made court ruling on all convicts.

In his speech at the ceremony, Chief Judge of the People’s Supreme Court, Truong Hoa Binh underlined the need to improve the quality of trials to minimise the number of rejected cases and ensure that verdicts are implemented within the law.

On the occasion, Mrs Doan presented the Order of Independence, third class, to the Hanoi municipal People’s Court and the Order of Labour, first class to Ung Hoa district People’s Court.
