Vietnamese photographer Dao Tien Dat has been named the Best of Asia at the prestigious 2006 Venice International Photo Contest.

Dat’s two winning photographs, both black and white, were Tro Ve Cat Bui (Return to Ephemera) and Do Nho (The Old Scholar).

Dat, a member of the Vietnam Artistic Photographers Association who lives in Binh Dinh province, was the only Asian photographer to win an award at the competition.


The year 2006 marked a milestone in Dat’s photographic career. He received 38 international awards, two national prizes and five gold medals, in addition to the Venice award.
