The Vietnam Cement Corporation (VCC) will accelerate its expansion of some cement plants to meet the increasing demand, according to VCC General Director Le Van Chung.

The relevant plants include Hoang Thach 3, But Son 2 and Bim Son in the northern region and Ha Tien I and II in the southern region.

Mr Chung said Vietnam's demand for cement is estimated to increase by 8-10 percent between now and 2010. Currently, the country is capable of producing 29 million tonnes of cement and 19 million tonnes of clinker, a material for cement production.

The Ministry of Construction has recently asked the VCC to accelerate the tempo of construction of cement plants so as to increase the country's annual output to 50 million tonnes by 2010, he said.

The VCC General Director added that his corporation has drawn up an investment plan aimed at building production chains of modern technology and high productivity but causing no harm to the environment.
