Storm brings down tallest TV antenna tower in north

(VOV) - Powerful storm Son Tinh struck down a 180-metre TV antenna tower in Nam Dinh, the tallest of its kind in north Vietnam, late on October 28.

Fortunately, the tower is far from residential areas so there is no human loss reported.

The storm, the eighth of its kind in Vietnam, also tore the roof off many houses, uprooted trees and caused power cut in two Northern provinces of Nam Dinh and Thai Binh.

Le Xuan Thuy, Director of Nam Dinh provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD), said this is the most powerful storm that has battered his province since 2005.

However, no serious damage has been reported, Thuy said.

Le Van Thang, Deputy Director of the Thai Binh provincial DARD, said all vessels have been brought to shelters.

In Haiphong City, the High Command of municipal Border Guards has mobilised all its force and equipment to search and rescue fishermen on board a bamboo boat.

Search and rescue teams of the city have also evacuated 200 out of 1,000 people on board small boats anchoring at a dry lock in Bach Long Vy island district.
