The National Institute for Hygiene and Epidemiology (NIHE) and the Henry Jackson Foundation Medical Research International (HJFMRI) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Armed Forces Research Institute of Medical Sciences (AFRIMS) on joint research into infectious diseases.

The Division of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (NIAID-DMID), under the National Institutes of Health of the US, will provide assistance to the research, focusing on projects to combat bird flu, Entero virus infection, bubonic plague and other dangerous diseases in Vietnam.

The MoU will boost cooperation between US medical experts and Vietnamese partners, as well as between US organizations and Vietnamese medical centres, including the Hanoi National Veterinary Research Institute and the Ho Chi Minh City Pasteur Institute.
