More than 400 businesses attended the Vietnam-Japan Economic Forum being held in Osaka, Japan by the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO), the Kansai Economic Federation (KANKEIREN) and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI).

Speaking at the opening ceremony on September 17, KANKEIREN president Hiroshi Shimozuma expressed his belief that despite worries about the high inflation and continual depreciation of the Vietnamese dong Vietnam is still an attractive destination for Japanese businesses thanks to its abundant human resources and stable socio-political situation. KANKEIREN will pay more attention to developing human resources in Vietnam and providing more opportunities for businesses from the two countries to co-operate with each other.


The Osaka governor Toru Hashimoto, highly valued Vietnam’s rapid economic growth and effective co-operation with Japan in recent times. He affirmed that Vietnam is one of the most Osaka’s important partners.


Chairman of the Vietnam-Japan Parliamentarians’ Friendship League Ho Duc Viet who is also a Politburo member of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee said that the forum will be a good place for businesses of the two countries to increase co-operation and introduce investment potential. He praised Japan’s assistance to Vietnam, especially in transport infrastructure, energy, telecommunications, and education and training. The two countries’ acceleration the signing of the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) will open doors to their businesses.


On the same day, two seminars entitled “Vietnam and development of the information technology industry” and “Kansai economy with global challenges” were also held.
