First boat service to begin on Khlong Phadung Krung Kasem Canal in Sept
A boat service is set to begin on Khlong Phadung Krung Kasem Canal in September to help relieve traffic congestion in Bangkok and to promote local tourism.
Prime Minister’s Office Spokesman Major General Sansern Kaewkumnerd revealed that the new boat service, which will kick off next month, will run five kilometers from Hua Lamphong to Thewet Pier in response to Prime Minster Prayut Chan-o-cha’s wish to lessen Bangkok’s traffic jams.
In the first phase of the development project, a new pier named Thewarat Kunchorn will be constructed in a bid to accommodate a growing number of passengers.
Four boats belonging to the Department of Drainage and Sewerage will be used on the canal to transport passengers who need to get to Thewet Pier from Hua Lamphong railway station.
The second phase of the development entails landscape improvement, canal dredging and the procurement of more boats.
