The US Department of Commerce (DoC) has presented a certificate to the Vietnam Directorate for Standards and Quality (STAMEQ) in recognition of the latter's contributions to promoting the US-Vietnam trade relationship.

The announcement was made by STAMEQ General Director Ngo Quy Viet in Hanoi on April 3. Mr Viet said that this is an opportunity for Vietnam's businesses to learn more about product standards applied in the US, facilitating the export of Vietnamese goods to the US and other countries worldwide.

This acknowledgement will also help STAMEQ win US partners' assistance to improve its capability in the field to better serve businesses in their efforts to access the US market and join in the regional and international economic integration.

Vietnam currently has 6,000 valid national standards, of which only one-fourth are compatible with international requirements, Mr Viet said.
