“Fighting corruption is a challenging task, but it must be rooted out”, said President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) in an interview granted to Radio the Voice of Vietnam (VOV). The Anti-Corruption Law adopted at the eight session of the 11th National Assembly officially comes into effect on June 1.

: What specific activities will the VFF launch to contribute to implementing the Anti-Corruption Law effectively?

Mr Duyet
: The VFF will issue its own resolution on practising thrift and preventing wastefulness and corruption. The front will join hands with the Party and State to bring the law into life and supervise the activities of State employees and Party members at the grassroots level. This will help cadres avoid mistakes and the less wrongdoings are committed, the less bureaucracy and corruption will occur. If the Party, State and political system are strong and transparent, the fight against corruption will be effective.

The VFF will ask the Party, State and relevant agencies to duly punish scandals attracting great public concern. Any official or minister who fails to fulfil their responsibility in managing their units or localities must be replaced or suffer a significant punishment.

VOV: How do you think anti-corruption activities will proceed after the law comes into effect?
Mr Duyet: I believe that there will be positive changes, but we need time because bureaucracy and corruption cannot be swept away overnight. The Party and the whole society are sparing no effort to bring to light corruption cases and strictly criticising corrupt officials. I believe that the law will come to life and anti-corruption activities will be well implemented.

VOV : Anti-corruption activities at the grassroots level are almost at a standstill. As a member of an organisation representing the people, what do you think about this situation?
Mr Duyet: This is true but it does not reflect the whole society. We are aware that if we cannot work against corruption, it will be a risk to the Party and State, which will lead to mistrust among the people. After coming into effect, the Anti-Corruption Law requires concrete actions, not words.

VOV: Thank you.
