Central Quang Ngai province has received US$13.7 million in aid from non-governmental organisations (NGOs) over the past five years, according to the provincial People’s Committee at a meeting on August 13.

The aid was provided by 22 NGOs through 120 programmes and projects that focused on communal development.

Plan International has been providing VND14 billion a year from 2000 to 2010 for a socio-economic development project in Tu Nghia, Nghia Hanh, Son Tinh and Son Ha districts, and another VND21 billion for the safe water and environmental hygiene project conducted from 2005 to 2009.

Meanwhile, the World Vision granted VND35 billion to a project to mitigate the aftermath of storms from 2005-2009, and the East Meets West donated VND8 billion to a project to help the disabled and Agent Orange/dioxin victims.

The province aims to attract VND80 billion (US$4.7 million) each year from NGOs to help poor people and Agent Orange/dioxin victims, improve the environmental hygiene and develop handicraft villages.
