Six national cultural festivals to be held in 2017

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) will coordinate with provincial Departments of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Department of Culture and Communications to organise six national cultural festivals in 2017.

The scheduled events include the Culture, Sports and Tourism Festival of ethnic groups in the Central Highlands (Lam Dong province); the first National Cultural Festival of the Dao ethnic people (Tuyen Quang province); and the Culture, Sports and Tourism Exchange Festival in the Vietnam-Laos border areas (Son La province).

Others festivals include the Culture, Sports and Tourism Exchange Festival in the Vietnam-Cambodia border areas; the seventh Culture, Sports and Tourism Festival of the Khmer ethnic people in southern Vietnam (Bac Lieu province); the New Year's tree Festival (Cay Neu); and the Cultural Exchange of Vietnamese Ethnic Minorities within the framework of the sixth Quang Nam Heritage Festival (Quang Nam province).

The MCST has asked relevant departments to prepare detailed plans to organise the above-mentioned festivals as well as submit them for approval to the respective provincial People’s Committees.

An array of cultural activities at the festivals aims to preserve and uphold the traditional cultural characteristics of ethnic minority communities in Vietnam.
