A delegation of the Ministry of Education and Training, led by permanent Deputy Minister Banh Tien Long, began a working visit to the US on June 9 to promote bilateral cooperation in education and training.

The delegation worked with some US higher education institutions and universities on a cooperation programme, aimed at renewing Vietnam’s tertiary education. The cooperation is expected to bring about basic changes in the quality, effectiveness and scale of Vietnam’s tertiary education to meet the requirements of the country’s industrialization, modernization and international economic integration process.

The delegation’s working sessions concentrated on the establishment of university complexes in Vietnam with US assistance to develop human resources in the country.

Both sides also discussed how to promote cooperation in training lecturers for Vietnamese universities, assist Vietnam to set up a system for accreditation of university education, and accelerate the implementation of advanced training projects between Vietnam’s leading universities and US prestigious universities.
