The Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (Vinashin) on February 14 signed a contract to build three 105,000-tonne oil tankers for the Vietnam Oil and Gas Transport Joint Stock Company.

Each tanker, 243.8-m long, 42-m wide and 21.4-m high, will be built by Vinashin's Dung Quat Shipbuilding Industry Co. Ltd under the supervision of Norway's DVN and Vietnam's VR registration.

The first tanker is scheduled to be completed in 24 months and the contract is expected to be fulfilled in three years.

The contract was part of the Government's plan to raise the capacity of the country's fleet in order to serve the transportation of crude oil in the country and abroad.
