The Central Paediatric Hospital has successfully conducted a liver transplant on an 11-month-old child after 12 hours.

About 20 doctors from the Central Paediatric Hospital and 10 doctors from the Republic of Korea began the operation on patient Tran Hoai Thu at 08.00am on December 16 and the transplant lasted through 20.00 the same day.

Thu, born in Hai Phong port city, suffers from innate atrophy of gall duct problems. The liver donor is her grandmother, 54.

According to hospital director Nguyen Thanh Liem, despite several difficulties, the operation was successful. Both the patient and the liver donor are recovering.
