Vietnamese, Mexican law-making bodies bolster cooperation

VOV.VN -  A delegation from Vietnam’s National Assembly (NA) led by NA Vice Chairman General Do Ba Ty paid a working visit to Mexico from November 22 -December 2 to boost friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

Meeting with President of the Mexican Senate Pablo Escudero Morales and Vice President of the Chamber of Deputies Alejandro Ojeda Anguiano, the NA Vice Chairman affirmed Vietnam treasures relations with Mexico and wishes to boost the comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.

Ty praised the effective cooperation between the Vietnamese NA and the Mexican Congress in the past years and reiterated the Vietnamese NA’s support for the development of multifaceted ties with Mexico through creating a favourable legal framework for foreign enterprises, including those from Mexico, to do business in Vietnam.

The NA Vice Chairman noted with joy the regular exchange visits made by senior officials of both countries and their close coordination and mutual support at international organisations and multilateral forums like the United Nations, the World Trade Organisation (WTO), the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum and the East Asia -  Latin America Cooperation Forum.

He conveyed NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan’s invitation to the President of the Senate and the President of the Chamber of Deputies of Mexico to visit Vietnam at an appropriate time.

On his part, the Mexican Congress leaders affirmed their readiness to share experience with Vietnam in law-making, supervision and settlement of voters’ petitions as well as to use their role to bolster bilateral cooperation in economy, trade, education, health, culture and tourism.

They said the two sides should devise specific solutions and recommendations to increase bilateral trade to a level corresponding to the potential of the two countries.


Mexican Congress leaders appreciated the role and position of the Vietnamese NA on the international arena. They invited the Vietnamese NA Vice Chairman and his entourage to attend a plenary session of the Senate and Chamber of Deputies.

During the visit, the Vietnamese delegation also met with Senator Teofilo Torres and president of the Mexican friendship parliamentarians’ group in the Chamber of Deputies Claudia Corichi. 

The delegation held a working session with Mexican Defence Minister Salvador Cienfuegos Zepeda and Minister of the Navy Vidal Francisco Seasons, during which the two sides agreed to work to enhance bilateral defence and navy ties, and towards the opening of military attaché offices in the other country. 

During all the meetings and working sessions, Mexican legislative leaders and ministers affirmed their support for Vietnam’s stance on addressing disputes in the East Sea by peaceful measures in line with international law, especially the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNVLOS), without the use of force or threat to use force while fully respecting diplomatic and legal processes, making efforts to manage sea disputes and maintaining peace, stability, and maritime and aviation security and safety on the East Sea.

The Vietnamese NA delegation also had a working session with the congress of the Puebla state, met General Secretary of the Mexican Workers Party Alberto Anaya and laid flowers at the Ho Chi Minh monument at the Historic Centre in Mexico City
