State President Truong Tan Sang held a reception for a delegation of Sri Lankan businesses that want to seek investment and trade promotion opportunities in Vietnam.

The President of the Sri Lanka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), Asoka Hettigoda, said that through the visit, Sri Lanka wants to learn more about the Vietnamese market and promote long-term investment in the country.

Asoka Hettigoda added that Sri Lankan businesses desire to explore cooperative opportunities in such fields as garment and textiles, gem stones, health, rubber, machinery and tourism. He expressed the wish to foster bilateral business links through incentive policies.

Sri Lanka plans to invite Vietnamese businesses to participate in trade exhibitions and fairs to be held in the country next year, he said.

For his part, State President Truong Tan Sang said that, following his recent visit to Sri Lanka in October, the visit by the Sri Lankan delegation is a good step toward bolstering economic relations between the two countries. He affirmed that the Government of Vietnam will create the best possible conditions for the two business circles to seek cooperation and investment opportunities.

President Sang also expressed the wish that the businesses will make the most of opportunities for cooperation, helping raise two-way trade turnover to US$1 billion by 2015.

The same day, the SCCI President also met with the Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Hoang Van Dung, to strengthen economic ties between the two countries.
