Vietnam-Laos ties – an invaluable asset

(VOV) - The traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos is an invaluable asset that should be maintained and developed in the future.

The view was shared by State President Truong Tan Sang and Choummaly Sayasone, General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) and State President during their meeting in Hanoi on December 26.

They both expressed pleasure at the strong development of the two countries’ relations in all areas, from politics, national defence-security and diplomacy to economics, trade, investment and education-training.

President Sang confirmed the Vietnamese Party and State’s determination to strengthen the special ties with their Lao counterparts.

He acknowledged Laos’ important achievements in maintaining political stability and social order, developing the economy, improving people’s living conditions, as well as increasing its role internationally.

He said he believes that the Lao Party, State and people will meet the five-year development objectives set by the recent 9th National Congress of the LPRP.

For his part, President Choummaly Sayasone briefed his host on the results of high-level talks between him and Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, and confirmed that Laos attaches great importance to developing ties with Vietnam.

He acknowledged Vietnam’s efforts to maintain its international position, stabilize its macroeconomy, and ensure social order amidst global difficulties.

The Lao Party will study Vietnam’s experience in the Party building work to improve the operational efficiency of grassroots-level Party organizations, formulate socio-economic development plans, and reduce poverty in remote areas, Sayasone said.

Both host and guest noted with satisfaction the organization of various activities celebrating the Vietnam-Laos Friendship and Solidarity Year 2012.

Sayasone said following the success of the friendship year, the Lao Party and State will discuss orientations to bring bilateral relationship to a new height.

Choummaly Sayasone began an official visit to Vietnam on December 26 at the invitation of Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong.
