Delegates to the second Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) conference have reached a high consensus on integrated education for disadvantaged children.

SEA officials discuss integrated education in Vietnam

At the conference, which closed in Danang on October 20, they emphasized the need for integrated education to open up new opportunities for all children, especially the disadvantaged and handicapped.

Despite having achieved initials success in creating an environment for access to equal and quality education, Southeast Asian countries still face huge challenges.

The Ministers agreed to promote research and improve public awareness of integrated education.

Witaya Jeradechakul, Director of SEAMEO Secretariat, said the organization has drawn up a strategic programme of action in the next ten years. It has already established centres to promote training activities and scientific research on integrated education in the region.

The third SEAMEO will be held in Thailand in 2012.
