Customs officials find 12 kilos of pot disguised as dried fruit

VOV.VN - At first glance, packages of dried fruit and candy looked like a normal shipment coming through customs at the Tan Son Nhat Airport. But instead the phony confectionary was packed full of marijuana.

Vietnam customs officers in Ho Chi Minh City, seized a total of 12 kilos of weed in the shipment that arrived today (June 16) masquerading as gifts, the Vietnam News Agency reported.

The crates hauling the confectionary originated from a yet undisclosed airport in the US.

Customs officials are keeping tight-lipped about the shipment. However, what is known is that this is not an isolated incident, said VNA.  Much larger shipments have been intercepted coming from the US over the past two months.

This is an outstanding interception of narcotics, said customs officials, noting that officers at the Tan Son Nhat Airport continue to excel in their knowledge of smuggling techniques, which allows them to stop these kinds of attempts to introduce narcotics into Vietnam.
