Two Vietnamese rowers Pham Thi Hai and Pham Thi Thao came fifth out of six pairs competing in the Repechage 1 of the women’s lightweight double sculls event at the London 2012 Olympics on July 31.
They made a very promising start and clocked the first 500m in 1m47s52 after two others from Holland and Australia.
However, in the next 500m they were left behind by the Brazilian and Japanese pairs and could not change the situation in the last 2,000m.
They finished the race in 7m37s46, 14s slower than Japan’s Fukomoto Atsumi/Iwamoto Akiko, who have advanced to the semi-finals.
