Hanoi wants to be friends with all cities in the world for peace, friendship, cooperation, development and mutual benefit, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung affirmed while receiving foreign delegations to celebrate the 1,000th anniversary of Hanoi.

October 9 he said on that the presence of foreign friends brings good fortune and friendship to Hanoi and Vietnam. Thang Long-Hanoi has turned 1,000 years old and is the pride of the nation. 

With many ups and downs in its history, Hanoi has always been the centre of the country and represents cultural essence and civilised traditions of the country, he added.

The city has obtained achievements in all fields including politics, economics, culture and society, thus contributing to the development of the country. In addition to its own efforts, Hanoi has received valuable support and assistance from all over the world, the PM stressed.

He took this occasion to thank countries for their friendship, and support to Vietnam in the past and at present.

Also on October 9, officials of the Hanoi People’s Committee met with over 30 foreign delegations coming to the celebrations in Hanoi.

Many cities and countries all over the world will take part in programmes in the millennial celebrations.
Toulouse, France, signed a cooperation pact with Hanoi to help the city continue with preservation projects in the old quarter.

Many other cities such as Moscow (Russia), Tianjin (China), Fukuoka (Japan) and Lion (France) are taking part in the celebrations.

Also on October 9, foreign art troupes gave performances on out-door stages around the Hoan Kiem Lake, in downtown Hanoi.
