The workshop aimed to review the implementation of a five-year Swedish SIDA-funded project to assist Vietnam’s culture and sustainable development in southern and central highland regions.

It was reported that musical heritage and traditional performing arts have become urgent matter in the region’s ethnic communities.

The project has been working to address the issue by disseminating traditional music among the youth, teaching folk songs and compiling folk music for schools.

Participants supported the project’s activities and agreed that localities should encourage artists to preserve their profession and open traditional music classes for younger generations.

Apart from northern Lao Cai, Cao Bang, Lang Son, Hoa Binh and Vinh Phuc provinces, the project is also being implemented in Dak Nong and Kon Tum (in central highlands), Tay Ninh (in the south), and An Giang and Soc Trang provinces (in the Mekong delta).
