Vinh Nghiem pagoda fest recognised as cultural intangible heritage

(VOV) -A ceremony was held in northern Bac Giang province on March 12 to recognize the annual festival of the Vinh Nghiem Pagoda as a national intangible cultural heritage.

Vinh Nghiem pagoda, also known as Duc La or La Pagoda, was built during the Ly dynasty and expanded in the 13th century during the Tran Dynasty. It was avenue for worship of the founders of Truc Lam Zen Buddhism – the first Buddhist university in Vietnam.

The pagoda houses a valuable collection of 3,050 woodblocks printed with Buddhist Sutras which was officially listed as the world’s documentary heritage by UNESCO.

The Vinh Nghiem Pagoda Festival is held annually on the 14th day of the second lunar month and attracts thousands of pilgrims and visitors.

It features religious rituals, a display of the woodblocks, and several folk games.
