The Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) has played an increasingly important role in the development of global and regional television and radio broadcasting, said Professor Vu Van Hien.

Professor Hien, the General Director of Radio Voice of Vietnam (VOV), affirmed this at a reception for ABU Secretary General Javad Mottaghi in Hanoi on May 23.

Mr. Mottaghi said the ABU is creating an action plan for the next six years which includes the completion of the ABU organizational structure and the establishment of a strategic group.

This strategic plan will be an orientation for the development of television and radio broadcasting in the Asia-Pacific.

Professor Hien expressed his support for the ABU’s strategy and affirmed that VOV will be a reliable partner of the ABU.

He also proposed three pillars for television and radio development , including professional knowledge, political institution, and the cultural identities of each country.

ABU Secretary Mottaghi expressed his happiness at professor Hien’s proposal and said the ABU will build a strategy to develope the partnership with VOV. He asked VOV to appoint competent staff to be part of the ABU secretariat.

Both sides said they believe a memorandum of understanding will be signed between VOV and the ABU.

** On the same day, VOV General Director Hien received Cambodian Minister of Information Khieu Kanharih, who is in Vietnam for the eighth Asia-Pacific Media Summit.

Minister Kanharih appreciated VOV’s preparations for the region’s major television and radio event.

He informed Professor Hien about the operation of the Siep Riep radio station, which was donated by VOV.

Mr. Hien said the relationship between Vietnam and Cmabodia in general and between VOV and the Cambodian Ministry of Information in particular, has seen significant development.
