The Vietnam Lawyers’ Association has helped promote national judicial reform and protect the justice and people’s legitimate rights and interests, contributing to socio-economic development.

Deputy Prime Minister Truong Vinh Trong made this statement at the 11th Congress of the Vietnam Lawyers’ Association, which opened in Hanoi on December 30.

In the previous term, the organization played an important role in the country’s strategy for judicial reform, actively assisting investigations, prosecutions, and trials of criminal, civil, and economic cases, and enforcing judicial procedures.

The association participated in devising the Law on Trade Arbitrators and other draft laws. It also legally assisted nearly 200,000 people and educated nearly 10 million people in legal knowledge.

In addition, the organization joined hands with the Vietnam Association for Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin to provide legal assistance for Agent Orange victims in their lawsuit against US chemical companies.

It also successfully hosted the 17th Congress of the International Association of Democratic Lawyers and the 10th General Assembly of the ASEAN Law Association.

Mr Trong urged the association to boost its external activities to gain more understanding and support from international friends for national construction and defence.
