The Vietnam National University (VNU) presented the Certificate of Honourable Doctor to US trade policymaker, Prof. Susan Schwab, in Hanoi on November 30.
Susan was the US Administration’s trade representative during President George W. Bush’s tenure from 2006 to 2009. She became a world-renowned trade policymaker because of her success in developing and supervising the US’s trade policies and building strategies for negotiations, implementation and acceleration of regional, bilateral and multi-lateral agreements.

She acted as a supervisor for WTO accession negotiations of Saudi Arabia, Vietnam and Ukraine, and decided the US’s trade policies in a number of areas, including agriculture, industry, service, investment, intellectual property, environment and labour.

Before becoming the US trade representative, she served as a trade policy officer in the US Embassy in Tokyo and an aide to then US Senator John C. Danforth.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, VNU Director Mai Trong Nhuan said that Schwab’s working visit to VNU’s University of Economics represents the university’s efforts to become a destination for world-renowned scholars.
