Temporarily detained people to cast votes on election day

More than 30,000 people who are in temporary detention will cast their ballots to elect deputies for the 14th National Assembly and People's Councils at all levels for the 2016-2021 term on the General Election Day on May 22.

Nguyen Ngoc Bang, Head of the Police General Department of Criminal Verdict Execution and Judicial Assistance, said that the organisation of voting for those in temporary detention is to realise the 2015 Law on Election of Deputies to National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels.

The department has arranged forces to ensure political security and social safety and order during the election preparations and election day.

Temporarily detained people have been provided with information to help them understand more about their rights and obligations related to the election as well as the polling date, places and methods.

The results will be announced within 20 days after the election day.

The new parliament will comprise 500 deputies. Provincial People’s Councils across Vietnam will have 3,918 deputies. Meanwhile, 24,993 and 294,055 candidates will be elected as council members at the district and communal levels, respectively.
