From now till the end of this year, four hydro-electric power plants located in the central region will be put into operation.

They are Dray Hlinh 2, Hchan, Khe Dienwill and Ea Krong Rou with a total design capacity of 65MW.

Electricity Company No.3 also has a plan to build 14 small hydro-electric power plants in the same region by 2010.

The construction of small hydro-electric power plants will help the central region control its electricity distribution and supply to the national grid especially when there is a power breakdown. In addition, the electricity supply will serve the far-flung and remote areas, where the national grid fails to reach.

In the first half of the year, the electricity sector in the central and Central Highland regions has produced 2.6 million kWh, achieving 102 percent of the six-month target and 48.7 percent of the annual plan.

The central and Central Highlands regions now have eight hydro-electric plants: Dray Hlinh 2, Hchan, Khe Dien, Dinh Binh, Dak Rone, Ea Krong Rou, Krong Hnang and Hmun. They have been built since 2003 by the Electricity of Vietnam.
