An exhibition entitled “Single mothers’ voices” is due to open at the Vietnamese Women’s Museum in Hanoi on March 7.

The event is the result of cooperation between the Vietnamese Women’s Museum and the Embassy of Finland in Vietnam. It aims to raise the economic and social status for a group of disadvantaged women.

On display are more than 100 photos telling true stories about 18 women living with “one shoulder under two yokes” as they do the functions of both mother and father in spite of gender prejudices. They are all single mothers living in Tan Minh commune in Hanoi’s outlying district of Soc Son.

The exhibition shows the change in the community’s perceptions and actions regarding the issue of single women on the way to achieving the goal of gender equality.

The opening ceremony will take place at 3pm on March 7 at the Vietnamese Women’s Museum, 36 Ly Thuong Kiet Street, Hanoi.
