Mineral companies in the central part of Vietnam resumed their activities right after the Lunar New Year festival (Tet) by exporting thousands of tonnes of materials to overseas markets.

During the first days of Tet, Thua Thien-Hue Minerals Co., Ltd. shipped 3,000 tonnes of ilmenite from Chan May Port to the Chinese market, while the Ha Tinh Minerals and Trading Corporation (MITRACO) exported 6,000 tonnes of titanium to the Japanese market.

Thua Thien-Hue Minerals Company produced 80,000 tonnes of various kinds of ore in 2006, earning some US$15 million from exports.

The company this year plans to build a pigment factory to produce titanium dioxide (TiO2) from ilmenite so as to increasing its export value.
