More than 500 athletes have registered for the Bitexco Vertical Run up the Bitexco Financial Tower, the tallest in HCM City, on October 30, announced the Bitexco Group.

Two thirds of the runners are Vietnamese and the rest come from 24 countries around the world.

This year’s event has attracted the participation of Thomas Dold from Germany and Melissa Moon from New Zealand, the 2010 winners of the“Empire State Building Run-Up”.

The R-MAX Company has also assisted 100 students from HCM City’s universities of technology and architecture to take part in the event.

The runners will be divided into different age groups, including under 19 years old, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, over 50.

The athletes must run up 1,002 steps to conquer the 178 vertical metres to the tower’s 49th floor.

Brad Gee, Director of the Bitexco Financial Tower, said the run is an important event marking the anniversary of the tower’s opening in October 2010.

All runner registration fees will be donated to assist disabled people in Vietnam.
