Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Gia Khiem will pay an official visit to the US from March 11-16, 2007 at the invitation of US State Secretary Condoleezza Rice, according to Foreign Ministry spokesperson Le Dung.

Mr Dung told reporters in Hanoi on March 9 that Mr Khiem will be accompanied by representatives from the Government Office, the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Post and Telematics and the Ministry of Education and Training.

The visit aims to promote the growing ties between Vietnam and the United States, enhance economic, trade, scientific and technological, educational and training cooperation, and discuss measures to implement the agreements reached during President George W. Bush’s visit to Vietnam in November 2006.

Mr Khiem is expected to hold talks with Ms Rice and have meetings with other administration officials, Congressmen, representatives of financial and educational organisations, leaders of big groups and representatives of the Vietnamese community in the US.

Mr Khiem will visit some other localities outside Washington D.C.
