Vietnam lost 3-2 to Turkmenistan at the Ho Chi Minh City International Football Tournament – SJC Eximbank Cup on October 5.

Vietnam benefited from vocal local support and wasted no time ratcheting up the pressure.

In the 20th minute of the match, Minh Phuong scored the first goal for the hosts. However, two minutes later the visitors’ captain leveled the score after a fault by a Vietnamese defender.

To the dismay of the home fans, the guests continued to record two more goals.

Although Vietnam created numerous chances but it was only in the 89th minute that striker Cong Vinh succeeded in scoring the host team’s second goal.

The tournament has attracted teams from Myanmar, Turkmenistan and Vietnam, as well as a student team from the Republic of Korea to compete in a round-robin format.
