New ambassadors present credentials in Hanoi

(VOV) - Five newly-accredited ambassadors from Timor Leste, Oman, Sweden, the Czech Republic and New Zealand presented their credentials to State President Truong Tan Sang on November 6 to mark the beginning of their mission in Vietnam.

At the receptions for the ambassadors, President Sang congratulated them on assuming their new missions, saying that he hopes they will contribute to fostering cooperative relations between Vietnam and their countries and he will try to create the best possible conditions for them to fulfil their duties in Vietnam.

At the meeting with Timorese Ambassador Jorge Trindade Never de Camoes, President Sang said both countries have great potential for cooperation in oil and gas exploitation, communications, tourism and agriculture.

Vietnam is willing to share its experiences in national construction with Timor Leste, Sang said, adding that he hopes both countries will implement their signed agreements effectively.

The Timorese diplomat said he wishes Vietnam will share its experiences and help his country become a full ASEAN member. He also conveyed an invitation from the Timorese President for President Sang to visit Timor Lester in the near future.

While receiving the new ambassador from Oman, President Sang congratulated the country on the socio-economic achievements it has recorded over the years and expressed his pleasure at the fine development of bilateral relations between Oman and Vietnam.

Sang said with its huge potential for cooperation in oil, gas, trade and labour, Vietnam will create favourable conditions for the two countries’ businesses to invest in each other's markets.

Their current fine relationship will give fresh impetus to developing bilateral ties in various fields in the years to come, he said.

He also stated that he hopes Oman will back Vietnam's candidacy for a position on the UN Human Rights Council for the 2013-2016 tenure, as well as the UN Security Council for the 2012-2020 tenure and the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) during the 2016-2018 tenure.

The Omani ambassador said both countries should promote exchange visits at all levels and Vietnamese businesses should be more active in learning about the investment environment in Oman.

Oman is ready to create preferential conditions for Vietnamese businesses to invest in the country, he noted.

Welcoming Swedish ambassador Camialla Mellander, President Sang praised the invaluable assistance the Swedish Government and people have given to Vietnam during its past struggles for national independence and in its current process of national construction and international integration.

As the largest western donor to Vietnam, Sweden has provided a total of US$2.5 billion in aid so far, which has contributed to strengthening the ties between the two nations.

Ambassador Mellander said she is impressed by Vietnam’s socio-economic reforms, adding that the Swedish Government has always supported Vietnam’s development and bilateral relations will continue to grow and flourish in the coming time.

Talking to Czech ambassador Martin Kkepetko, President Sang said he is pleased with the fine development of the two nations' traditional friendship and thanked his country for assisting Vietnam in training human resources and facilitating good living conditions for overseas Vietnamese in the Czech Republic.

Sang said he hopes the signing of the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (PCA) between Vietnam and the EU will help boost cooperation between Vietnam and the Czech Republic, as well as with the EU.

Vietnam is willing to act as a bridge for the Czech Republic to enter the ASEAN market, he added, saying that he hopes that Ambassador Kkeptko will strengthen bilateral cooperation in economics, trade, culture, education, national security and defense during his term in Vietnam.

At the reception for New Zealand Ambassador Haike Christiaan Manninh, President Sang said he hopes that the ambassador will use his diplomatic experience to promote initiatives to elevate the relationship between the two countries to a higher level.

Sang said he is pleased with the positive results of cooperation in economics, trade and education and training and expressed his wish for closer cooperation in all fields and at regional and international forums.

Ambassador Manninh stated that cooperative relations between Vietnam and New Zealand have developed considerably over the years, with two-way trade turnover reaching more than US$500 million.

The two countries have great potential for future cooperation and both sides need to fully exploit their fields of strength and coordinate more closely at regional and international forums for mutual benefit as well as peace in the region and the world, said Manninh.
