As the World Cup season draws near, different types of TV sets are selling well in the electronics market including LCD televisions, flat-screen televisions.

“I want to buy a 21-inch flat screen SONY television for VND3 million to watch the World Cup football matches”, said customer Nguyen Van Luu. Many customers also share the same feeling, especially football fans, who want a big-screen television to enjoy football matches with families and friends during the football season.

The electronics market has become hectic in recent days with many different kinds of discounts on offer. Electronics shop owner Nguyen Thi Thu said, the market is becoming hotter. Sony and JVC Vietnam are offering a discount of 10 percent on their televisions.

In Hanoi, television prices have also fallen quickly with 21-inch flat screen televisions selling for VND2,500,000-3,200,000 each for LG, VND2,950,000-3,590,000 each for JVC, and VND3,590,000-4,090,000 each for Sony. The prices of LCD and PLASMA televisions have dropped sharply, down by VND5-10 million each, and sometimes as much as VND15 million each. The normal price for these products ranges between VND10-70 million.

One of main reasons is that businesses are launching promotion campaigns to attract more consumers. Nguyen Manh Quan, a salesclerk at an electronic shop, said that his shop will offer a DVD set for customers who buy a TV set. Another shop-keeper, Hoang Minh Vuong, said: “Our shop is launching a promotion programme. When customers purchase a 21-inch TV set, we will offer a thermos flask or a Rang Dong lamp worth VND90,000.”

In Ho Chi Minh City, large electronic shops have launched many attractive promotion campaigns. At Loc Le shop, customers who purchase a Sony 36-inch TV set will be offered a Sony digital camera. Customers that buy a JVC 21-inch TV set will receive a Sharp stove for free.

The prices of DVD sets and digital receivers are falling by VND200,000-300,000/set compared to previous time. A Japanese-made DVD player is being sold at VND1.4-1.5 million, while a digital receiver produced by Hanel or VTC is being sold for VND1.5-1.7 million. The country’s purchasing power is rising thanks to promotion campaigns and the upcoming World Cup.
