70 years of Vietnam People's Army marked abroad

(VOV) - The Defense Attaché office of the Vietnam Embassy in Germany on December 10 hosted a solemn ceremony marking 70 years since establishing the Vietnam People's Army (VPA), attended by 160 guests, including representatives of German defence and diplomatic agencies along with Vietnamese veterans in Germany.

In his speech, Vietnam Ambassador to Germany Nguyen Thi Hoang Anh reviewed the glorious history and development of the VPA in the protracted struggle against foreign invaders for national independence and freedom as well as in the national construction and national defense.

The Ambassador also underscored the importance of building a firm national defence, in which the people's army plays a key role and pooling resources to modernize the army in order to defend national independence and sovereignty.

“The VPA has actively engaged in international activities, both bilateral and multilateral to build strategic trust and promote peace in the region and the world.

After Vietnam and Germany established a strategic partnership in 2011, their bilateral ties have developed vigorously in all fields. In terms of military cooperation, the two sides’ high-level exchange visits have significantly contributed to consolidating trust and deepening mutual understanding.” Anh said.

The Vietnamese diplomat highly appreciated German support and assistance for the VPA, adding Vietnamese soldiers trained in Germany will act as a bridge tightening the friendship between the two armies and peoples.

In the framework of the ceremony, the Vietnam Embassy in Germany also introduced a number of publications on Vietnam’s landscape, people and socio-economic achievements.

The same day, the Defense Attaché Office of the Vietnam Embassy in Thailand also celebrated 70 years of the VPA in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister Yongyuth Yuttavong and numerous senior Thai and international officials.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vietnam Ambassador in Thailand Nguyen Tat Thanh reiterated Vietnam’s foreign policy of not participating in any military alliance or links with other countries against third country and not allowing putting foreign military bases in the Vietnamese territory.

The Vietnam Defence Ministry has actively participated in the regional defence and security cooperation mechanisms, such as the ASEAN Defence Ministers Meeting (ADMM), the ASEAN Defence Ministers Meeting Plus (ADMM +), regional security forum (ARF) and many other important defence and security forums.

Defense ties between Vietnam and Thailand are growing well as a result of enhanced visit exchange at all levels.

Navy cooperation is considered a bright spot in the defence ties between Vietnam and Thailand. Both sides have maintained effective cooperation in joint patrol in the waters bordering the two nations as a contribution to strengthening mutual understanding and trust and ensuring security and safety for fishing activities, Thanh said.
